It is best for all parties to just remember that we're looking for realistic game play in our league. A large part of this is variety, and that means that blitzing every play, or running zone defense only will not be tolerated. If you have a problem with us limiting your blitzing and telling you that you cannot run zone 90% of the time the leave and go find a different league to "play" in.
#1
Defense must always choose a play instead of letting the computer choose it. Players are required to control one player when they are on defense.
#2
Defensive Shifting : You may ONLY MANUALLY move ONE PLAYER; THAT ONE MUST BE PLAYER YOU ARE CONTROLLING (LB or DB) before the snap. All Defensive Line shifts (L1 then D-pad L, R, down, or up) are allowed, but the man you control in the back 7 is the only one who can be manually moved. All Linebacker shifts (R1 then D-pad L, R, down, or up) are allowed, and also All Defensive Back shifts (Triangle then D-pad L, R, down, or up) are allowed. DO NOT MOVE YOUR PLAYER OUT OF THE REASONABLE REALM OF THEIR SPACE. Absolutely DO NOT move players to take advantage of AI flaws. There is no limit on group shifts or audibles on defense. Speed rushing the DE is completely banned and is 100% Illegal. Speed rushing is taking control of the DE and bypassing, or not engaging the tackle, then running around him to get to the QB for an easy sack. Using your DEs and DTs to create your own interior stunts and twists is LEGAL.
IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!
When shifting your line, you may NOT manually rush a DE. If you want to manually use the Defensive End, do not shift your line. If this hinders your style of defense, you were playing cheesy defense in the first place. In short, if you move your line AT ALL, you MAY NOT manually use a defensive end!!!!!!
#3
Defensive Lineman : the defensive line is to ONLY be moved within the AUTOMATIC SHIFTS provided in the game NO MANUAL MOVEMENT of D-line. You are not allowed to move any DL-man, either laterally or vertically, manually before the snap. After the snap feel free to move him back into coverage. You MAY NOT "DROP" your defensive line off the line of scrimmage pre-snap. ALL defensive linemen MUST be in their 2, 3 or 4 point stances until the snap of the ball. AFTER the snap YOU CAN drop them into coverage (zone blitz, etc.) BUT NOT UNTIL AFTER THE SNAP.
IMPORTANT: YOU MAY NOT "STACK" defensive linemen by putting them on top of or behind one another TO EXPLOIT Offensive Line blocking AI, as Defensive shifting of players is limited to one individual player movement per play. Defensive tackles must stay within the bounds of the defensive ends and defensive ends cannot be moved outside of their normal shifts on an individual basis.
#4
Linebackers/Defensive Backs : A linebacker can be shifted within reason manually. They CANNOT be moved toward the line of scrimmage or stacked on top of a DE to take advantage of AI flaws. They cannot be moved inside a DL men's outermost point. REMEMBER: You can only manually shift 1 player on defense. A DB can be shifted within reason manually. They CANNOT be moved inside of the normal linebacker positioning to the line of scrimmage. REMEMBER: You can only manually shift 1 player on defense.
#5
Defensive Audibles -- EXCESSIVE AUDIBLES ON DEFENSE IS DISCOURAGED. You may only change your audible button assignments at the beginning of the game or at halftime. On defense, you may NOT audible down in formations (i.e.: Quarters, dime, nickel, 1-5-5, 3-2-5, etc TO 4-3, 3-4, 4-4, 4-6, etc. Placing DBs at LB, or any other audible that places a significant amount of players out of the natural position) to create favorable match-ups this is ILLEGAL AND IS CONSIDERED A CHEAP PLAY.
#6
Goal Line Defense : Just like on offense you may only call this formation inside the 10 yard-line at either end of the field, or on a 3rd or 4th and very short.
#7
Bump & Run.......Although it's NOT illegal, to B&R EVERY play is. It takes advantage of the game's AI. It is also NOT Sim, which is ILLEGAL AND IS CONSIDERED CHEAP PLAY.
#8
Line Crashing : BANNED
#9
Punting/Punt Blocking : When punting you may motion a gunner but he must come set before the ball is snapped. When blocking a punt you MUST BE IN PUNT BLOCK FORMATION. You may not manually move any player except the punt returner before the snap. You CANNOT drop a player back into punt coverage BEFORE the snap. You also CANNOT manually shift ANY player (other than the punt returner) before the snap. Automatic shifts provided in the game are allowed.
#10
Using "Commit"
Pushing the right stick down (for run) or up (for pass) right after snap is allowed, but not every play. Playaction is the only way to counter this tactic if it is used all of the time and it needs to be limited just like blitzing. Blitzing and Committing more than 1/2 of the time is too much in our eyes. If you disagree and cannot play like that go find another league to play in.
